15. A Classy Christmas Ruffle Shirt for Carols and Church
Ruffles down the placket and around a tall stand collar give this crisp white shirt a slightly Victorian feel, which suits December better than it suits the garden it was shot in. Long buttoned cuffs keep it neat.
Here are two ways to wear it:
As shown: tucked into a white cotton midi skirt with cutwork embroidery near the hem. White on white, broken only by a tan leather top handle bag.
For a carol service: tuck it into black velvet trousers or a dark green velvet skirt instead. The ruffles look even sharper against a dark, soft fabric.

December was made for this one. A long chocolate brown leather trench, belted and buttoned, over tall boots in a deeper brown. The rest is cat eye sunglasses and an oversized black tote with baguettes poking out.
Brown on brown is why it looks rich. Two shades of one color read as a choice, where a black coat and black boots read as a default.
The belt matters more than it seems. Without it, a coat this long hangs straight down with no shape.
A word of warning: leather coats run warm indoors. Wear something underneath you’re happy to be seen in, because the coat comes off the minute you step inside.
