Disclaimer

Please read this page before acting on anything you find on Hello Emy. It is short, and it matters.

The Short Version

I am not a professional. Everything here is personal experience and personal opinion. Hair, skin, and nails are wildly individual, so what worked for me may not work for you, and in some cases could go badly wrong. Patch test, follow product instructions, and see a licensed professional for anything chemical or anything you are unsure about.

The longer version follows.

1. Not Professional Advice

The content published on helloemy.com is provided for general information and entertainment purposes only.

I am not a licensed cosmetologist, hairstylist, colourist, nail technician, esthetician, dermatologist, or medical professional. I hold no professional certification in any of these fields. Nothing on this site is professional, medical, or cosmetic advice, and nothing here should be treated as a substitute for guidance from a qualified professional.

If you need advice about your hair, skin, or nails, please speak to someone qualified to give it.

2. Individual Results Vary

This is the most important thing on this page.

Hair texture, porosity, density, and prior chemical history vary enormously between people. Skin sensitivity, allergies, and reactions to ingredients vary just as much. Nail thickness, growth rate, and tolerance for products differ from person to person.

A technique, product, or process that worked beautifully for me, or for whoever originally shared it, may produce a completely different result on you. It may produce no result at all. It may cause damage.

No outcome described anywhere on this site is guaranteed, promised, or predicted for you specifically.

3. Safety, Chemicals, and Reactions

Some of what gets covered here carries real physical risk, and I want to be direct about that rather than bury it.

Chemical processes. Bleaching, dyeing, toning, perming, relaxing, and keratin treatments can cause hair breakage, chemical burns, scalp injury, and permanent damage. These are not risks I can eliminate by writing carefully. If you are attempting any chemical process at home, you are accepting that risk yourself. For anything significant, go to a salon.

Allergic reactions. Hair dye, particularly anything containing PPD, is a common cause of allergic reaction, and reactions can be severe. Nail adhesives, gels, acrylics, removers, and even some polishes can cause contact dermatitis or allergic sensitisation, sometimes after years of trouble-free use.

Always patch test. Test any new product on a small area of skin, following the manufacturer’s instructions, and wait the full recommended time before proceeding. Do not skip this because you are in a hurry. Most people who have a serious reaction skipped it.

Follow the product instructions. Where anything on this site conflicts with the instructions printed on a product, follow the product instructions. The manufacturer knows their formula. I do not.

Tools. Heat styling tools, cuticle nippers, electric files, and UV or LED lamps can all cause burns, cuts, or injury if misused.

If you experience irritation, burning, swelling, blistering, or any adverse reaction, stop immediately, rinse with cool water where appropriate, and seek medical attention. Do not wait to see if it settles down.

4. Curated Content and Sourced Ideas

Many posts on this site are collections of ideas rather than tutorials I have personally performed.

I say this openly on the About page and I will say it again here. Nobody has personally tested four hundred nail designs. When I gather twenty hairstyle ideas, I am showing you what I would consider and what I think holds up, not claiming I have worn all twenty. Where a post is a curated collection rather than a first-hand tutorial, I try to make that clear in the post itself.

Where ideas or images come from other creators, they are credited and linked wherever possible. I do not claim ownership of third party work, and copyright in that work remains with its original owner.

5. Accuracy and Currency

I make a genuine effort to keep content accurate and useful, and posts get revisited rather than left to rot. Even so, I cannot guarantee that everything here is complete, current, or free of error.

Products get reformulated. Products get discontinued. Techniques fall out of favour, and sometimes what was considered fine five years ago is now known to be a bad idea. Information that was accurate when published may become outdated without my noticing immediately.

If you spot something wrong on this site, tell me. I would genuinely rather know.

6. Products Mentioned

Where I mention a product, it is because I bought it and had an opinion about it.

I do not run sponsored posts. I do not use affiliate links. Nobody pays me to say a product is good, and no brand has any influence over what appears here. If that ever changes, I will disclose it clearly and prominently at the top of any affected post and update this page.

Mentioning a product is not an endorsement of the manufacturer, and it is not a promise the product will work for you. Prices, formulations, and availability change without notice.

7. Advertising

This site displays advertising, and advertising is how it is funded.

Ads are served by third party networks. I do not choose which specific ads appear to you, and the presence of an ad on this site is not an endorsement of the advertiser or the product being advertised. Any transaction you enter into with an advertiser is between you and them.

8. External Links

This site links to other websites. Those links are provided for reference and convenience.

I do not control external sites, I do not endorse their content or products, and I am not responsible for what happens on them. When you follow a link away from helloemy.com, that site’s terms and privacy policy apply, not mine.

9. Assumption of Risk and Limitation of Liability

By using this site and acting on its content, you accept that you do so entirely at your own risk.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, I accept no liability for any loss, injury, damage, irritation, allergic reaction, hair damage, or financial loss arising from your use of this site or your reliance on anything published here.

Nothing in this Disclaimer excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
